March 4 - Started these geraniums downstairs under the lights mid-January. Geraniums take a fair amount of time to germinate and grow. Last year I didn't plant seeds until April and as a result, didn't have blooms until almost August. Starting them early will ensure there are flowers when the plants are ready to into the garden in late May. If you do use grow lights, keep them close to the seeds, otherwise you will have leggy seedlings that won't survive. And keep the lights on for at least 16 hours a day. Move the lights up as the plants start to grow.
